I recently purchased an external LaCie d2 80GB FW hard drive -- i plan to primarily use it for backing up system files, mail, photos, etc. on my B&W G3/350 (OS 8.6) at home; but since this Firewire drive can be used with both Mac & PC systems, I would like to be able to back up my Office 2000 files on my Dell laptop at work as well (unfortunately, my employer hasn't figured out that Macs are the way to go!). If I could use the one drive with the 2 systems, it would certainly save me from purchasing another external HD.
So here's my main question:
Does anyone on the list know if these LaCie d2 FW drives can be used with 2 different OS's on the same drive? (i.e., create two different partitions with each respective OS on the one drive and then swap the drive back and forth between systems as I need to make backups?)
Or, in other words -- is it possible to use the d2 hard drive with both my B&W G3 at home running OS 8.6 and my Dell laptop at work running Win 2000 Professional? The documentation that came with the drive says nothing about it and i've had no luck with LaCie tech support. Any ideas, comments, or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks,
Best regards, Sue Street
