Last night we installed a new game...needed an updated graphics driver...downloaded it, tried it, didn't take, now the machine won't start up - freezes on the Windows 98 logo. I have an emergency floppy but don't know the commands to be able to get in and do anything. I have Norton Systemworks for it, checked, no viruses, but I don't seem to be able to start from that either.
I have a Compaq RESTORE disk that has the Windows programs on it, so I don't have a Windows startup disk...
It seems it won't start because no driver is activated for the graphics/video...how do I get into it to get a driver to load?
Also, CAN I install Windows 98 SE OVER Windows 98 or will I lose all my data? You know, like when you need to install a new system, you just install (if you have the hard drive space) and then move things back and forth and none of the applications are bothered. Can you DO that with Windows?
I do have a CDRW that is Mac/Win that I could use to back the data up, but I fear it is too late for that, since I can't get it to start????
HELP! He needs to work on a science fair project and we can't share a computer very well! Besides, he doesn't LIKE Macs! Ha! Mine is still working!!!! LOL!
