Hello,
I'd like some recomendations on a digital camera in the $200.00
range. There are so many, and the things to look for are so different
from a conventional camera. My biggest problem may be a USB port. My
G3-mt does not have a built in port. I have a USB card installed that
works well for what I am using. Are there any cameras that can work with
an external USB port?
Thanks

I have a older 2 megapixel HP camera that does quite well. HP is working hard
to be user friendly with the newer models, especially the camera to printer
interface. There are lots of cameras out there in the $200 range. These days
you should get at least 3 megapixels and optical zoom for that price if you shop
carefully.

I'm currently in love with my Canon s50 which is running about $500 retail. Ask
if you want details. I know you don't want to spend that much. I was very
unhappy with the Minolta s315, 4 mpx. I don't know if the problems I had
generalize to other Minolta digitals.

My HP camera appears as a drive on the desktop on my Beige MT, os 9 or X through
a usb card. Some digital cameras, my Canon included, don't appear as a drive
unless you do something I never figured. But they will interface with their own
software through the usb port or with iPhoto in osX.

I spent $15 on a card reader, which is faster than most cameras can transfer.
The card reader makes the contents appear as a drive, too, which I like. I use
my camera card to move data files from work to home, and card readers are great
for that.

I think your main question was whether a usb port on a card is ok. I haven't
found ANYTHING that objects to the usb ports on a card, so I don't worry when
the manufacturer specifies "built-in port." That's been my experience anyway.
