The Rage II+DVD GPU is not the same as the DVD decoder card that fits into the PERCH slot. If you have the DVD decoder in your machine it would have shipped with a DVD ROM drive and not a CD-ROM. These cards are very expensive because they have specialised audio as well as video and dvd decoding.
There are hacked versions of the DVD software decoder http://www.os9forever.com/DVDPlayer.html These are obviously processor intensive. The software sounds like its unable to set your on board video to the resolution it desires...which I guess could be an issue as to why the Rage PRO and PRO TURBO added the additional graphics resolutions on the boards. The READ me for the DVD player patch says G3/400+ and ATI 128+ so you may need to upgrade to both.
