I've done several such swaps. 1) the PC supply cable should be at least 13" long otherwise it might not reach the G3's mobo connector. 2) most PC supplies will have dual drive cables, each with two AMP Mate-N-Lock (standard disk drive) connectors and one Japan Molex (standard 3.5" floppy) connector. I always replace the Japan Molex connectors with AMP Mate-N-Lock connectors. The only possible use for these Japan Molex connectors would be for SCSI Zips. 3) get a 300 W PC supply ... one without a power-on/off switch. This will have remote power-on/off. 4) if the subject supply has auxiliary 12 volt and 5/12 volt cables, as for the latest AMD and Intel processors, change these into: a) an additional disk drive power cable, and b) a power cable for the MT's fan unit. You'll have to get into the supply to do (4). Segregate the additonal wires as needed and clip off the unneeded wires about 1" from the supply's PCB. Shrink on lengths of heat-shrink tubing over the ends of the cut wires. Get a M3.5-0.6 tap and re-tap the existing 6-32 UNC mounting holes so these will match the MT's hardware. With experience, this conversion can be done in about 30 minutes. -- G-List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
