On or about the space time coordinates of Sat, 07 Feb 2004 08:51:11 -0500, Mark Christol entered the vortex to dispatch this blend of tepid opinion:

"In 1984 a Mac was a big thing.
Nowadays it is pretty much just the standard even though Appl'e's OS has
a small marketshare.
You might have to address your presentation from a historical perspective."

hmmmm, well I'd agree with the first comment. Not the second or third, though.

Todays Mac IS a big thing. We may not see it as readily as someone else who has ONLY dealt with the PC way of computing. And we have an even harder time understanding how someone may think about it who has NEVER computed previously!

OS X has made the "NEW MAC USER" a much easier occurrence. Many of the "set up" (if not most) tasks are performed in the background. Mail is simple enough for a grade school child to initiate. Web browsing; even easier. Drivers exist out of the box for most new printers. Connecting a digital camera is mostly plug and play. Having iPhoto, iTunes, and iMovie work right out of the box is probably the BIGGEST selling point for new buyers. The iLife suite is a "closer", especially now that Mail and Safari seem to have most of the bugs ironed out.

And the design: people flat out LOVE it! Nothing compares to the flat screen iMac. And for the REAL computer geek, take a Linux fan to see a G5 (if they haven't already), and listen for one phrase: "whoa"....

It is so much easier to be a Mac user in 2004 than it has ever been: SINCE 1984! It's the package!

regards from subterra!

Jim
