80 MB HD? I'm guessing you mean 80GB HD and it's an IDE drive not a SCSI
right? The SCSI problems tended to be with the first versions of X upto
10.1.5(?). At installation, if the card was in your machine, you'd get a
kernal panic.

I've installed Jag in my B&W with my SCSI card in it and it installed just
fine. I believe Apple fixed the SCSI problem once Jaguar came out. The
work around to it before was to remove the SCSI card during installation of
pre-Jaguar OS X, install the OS X driver for the SCSI card (in my case
Adaptec), then put the card back in and all should be fine.

If you plan on using Jaguar or Panther there shouldn't be any problem with
using a SCSI card. As stated before problems were mostly with pre-Jag OS X.
I have heard of corrupt or lost data, but have never (knock on wood)
experienced it myself. I'm using my SCSI card to access info from my EZ135
disks. I've also used it with an internal 4GB hard drive and it worked fine
as well. No corrupt or lost data.

Try ADAPTEC or ACARD. I believe they make PCI SCSI cards that are bootable
in 8, 9, and X. If you only want to attach a SCSI device or hard drive to
it and are not concerned about being able to boot from it, then go with the
ADAPTEC 2906. It's selling for $89 USD. Check around Toronto i.e. CPUsed,
Carbon Computing, etc. I've had no problems with it these past 5 years.

Once you install OS X, check System Prefs and check under Network for the
model of modems supported. I believe NEC had a few USB modems listed as
well as one SupraExpress v.90 USB modem. If it's listed then I believe the
drivers are already there, don't need to install them in X. Getting the
internal B&W modem is a bit tricky. Try ebay for that. I'm not too sure
about PCI modems since I've never used them.

As for your other questions, I'm not quite sure.

BTW if you are going to use Panther, I suggest upgrading your CPU to a G4
ZIF (I got a G4/350 ZIF from ebay for under $90 USD early last year) and
your RAM (at least to 768).
