a dvd player will be much, much cheaper than the combination of adapters you'd need, and
probably a better image quality because the adapters will probably degrade the image. you
can get dvd players for as little as $50, new.

Thanks for the suggestion... but I'm well aware of how cheap DVD's are.

But there is the typical scenario of wanting to watch all the films
in AVI, MPG format. VCD would be a natural suggestion, but most
DVD players only play 1 in 10 VCD disks...

I'm gonna use a different video card which has composite and
S-video out. It's an ATI card but can't remember what it's called.

That sounds great. The thing is, I have a nice vid card as it is... and I can't really afford to get a new video card that is just as good as my current card AND has those outputs.

oh, well yes, if you want to watch things besides dvd, that is the best solution, and
probably even cheaper than a dvd player. there is a trick, to make dvd's play through a
video card of your' choice, it has to be the "boot" monitor and you have to restart when
changing the primary monitor, at least i've gotten it to work that way. of course you'll
need a wireless keyboard and/or mouse if you want a remote control, but then again i
usually don't find that necessary when watching a movie.

I see what you're saying. The issue with this is, I only have one monitor, and I don't need/want another. I want to use my current TV as a second display.

Anything else?

thanks guys.
