Rad, The processor upgrade for a Powerbook is a little more complex than a standard desktop upgrade. It depends on the "model" of Powerbook. For example, the G3 "Pismo" upgrade requires in most cases that you send the unit in for the upgrade, and some of the "Titanium" units require that the logic board be replaced to significantly upgrade the processor. Determine what the primary usage of the Powerbook would be and purchase accordingly. Is it is just mobility of the Mac platform or as a replacement of your desktop Mac? In regards to the ThinkPad, ( close your eyes Mac Evangelists ) , I find it is very useful to have both platforms available. I have an IBM ThinkPad T20 733 MHz and my daughters B&W G3 400 is as fast on everything except FPU processing. As good as the Mac platform is, sometimes specialized software and applications are less expensive on the PC (Windows). XP is a nice Windows release. I'd keep the IBM, and get rid of the Compaq though. Just my .02 Wade Perry -- G-List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
