Hi all, I've just bought a 120 gig ATA-133 DiamondMax Plus9 HD and installed it on the mobo ATA-bus of my beige MT 300 Mhz. It's very quiet and doesn't get hot, I like it a lot. I needed the space for DivX movies and audio-CD images. But it's slower than my two UW-SCSI HDs connected to the original Apple ATTO UW-card.
Question #1: Would it make sense to swap the ATTO-card for an ATA-133 card? ATA-gigs are soo much cheaper than UW-SCSI, even 2nd-hand. Which bus would be faster? I could still use both UW-HDs on the mobo-SCSI with an adapter. How about OSX? Which ATA-133 card would be supported under OSX? Qu. #2: A good vriend of mine, a graphic designer, wants to upgrade from his trusty 9600 to a beige MT like mine, he also needs a much bigger HD and wants to run OSX but needs to keep his two monitors. Is there a PCI video-card out there which supports two "real" monitors (NOT in mirror mode) and which is supported by OSX on a beige? I gathered from previous posts that the mobo video on the beige G3 isn't supported any more. It would be nice because I have a second beige MT which I could put to good use for him ... Qu. #3: I'd like to OC my 300 Mhz MT mildly to 333 Mhz and maybe a bus of 75 Mhz. Metronome tells me that my processor runs quite cool at 40 to 45 ?C @300 Mhz. Is this figure real? It would mean that the processor could get much faster and hotter w/o becoming unstable, does it not? A last question: When watching DivX-movies with QuickTime, does it make sense to give QT much RAM, i.e. significantly more than the recommended amount, to get smoother playback? Or is it simply a question of processing power? Would a G4-upgrade make sense? I reckon that QuickTime would use the AltiVec-engine, wouldn't it? TIA for your comments and answers!
