 not cable select a Mac.  Just simply set one ide device to slave an the
 other to master (on the same cable). That ALL there is to it.

WHOA NELLIE! Be careful about thinking that your PCI controller is the determinant of the IDE pin settings. It is WELL KNOWN that--contrary to intuition--some Western Digital drives should have all the jumpers pulled on many machines. The best thing to do is check out the Tech support of your DRIVE MANUFACTURER and as noted above, check out XLR8.
