I had a Rev A 233 and I had to create an 8 gig partition on a 10 gig drive.
It did allow me to install jag in that partition.

I have a 30 gig drive on the motherboard bus (Beige MT) that I reformatted and
tried to install Panter on. Nothing else was on the drive. I kept getting a
message saying it needed to be in the first 8 gigs. Never figured out why it
wouldn't go and wound up installing Panther on another drive, (ata on a pci
board seen as scsi.)

Any ideas what was going on with that 30 gig?
