Actually CTX is a name brand, they were quite popular several years ago in the peecee world.

Do you have another monitor that you can plug in to isolate the problem, at least then you'd know whether it is the video card or the monitor.

My money is on the monitor as the problem.

I have a G4 AGP connected to some no-name 17" color monitor (it's called CTX color monitor). Today, for no apparent reason it has become much darker than before--almost unusable. I tried adjusting the controls on the monitor itself, no help.

I'm pretty sure it's a hardware problem--it doesn't matter whether I'm in X (10.2.8) or Classic, or restart in 9.2. I tried reseating the AGP card--no help.

Any ideas, or am I in the market for a new monitor?
