I had this happen on a 7600 once, and the problem was the end of the scsi
cable where it attached to the motherboard. The plastic cable end broke and
as a result, the cable wasn't making a good connection with the MB. It was
very hard to see, and it wasn't until I went to remove the motherboard, that
I noticed the bad cable connector. It produced your sympoms exactly, so
maybe, check your cables for cracks, broken ends, etc? It sounds like you've
done all the other things to check.
