You are certainly not allone -- 60Hz on a CRT is awful (default on many
windows installs without the proper driver for the card). First thing I
*have* to change every time I have to put my fingers on a Winbox ;-)
Vesa Standard 72Hz is bearable, 85Hz and higher ok. 
Quite a different story on TFT of course, there the typical 60Hz are ok.
