I've run VPC 6 on a powerbook 12" 867 and a powermac dual 1.42. There is some difference between them but the biggest thing is ram, the more you can allocate to VPC the more noticeable improvement you will see. I would have to disagree with the half the speed statement. I've ran windows xp on a pII 400MHz with 384MB of ram and it ran circles around the 12" 867 powerbook with 400 MB of ram allocated to the XP VPC and even on the dual 1.42 with 512 allocated ram for xp it was still very noticeably slower than the PII machine.

In your situation running autocad, I would say you're going to need a pc still to use it, that is quite a demand program to be emulated on mac. But who knows how good VPC 7 may be. I'm not betting much on it but its always a possibility.

I'm looking for feedback from anyone who has used Virtual PC 6 with a
Mac that's faster than mine (B&W G3-450, 768mb memory). I tried using
it for a while, running Windows 2000 Professional. It worked OK, but
was fairly slow. I set up a P2-350 PC with 384mb memory, and it is much
faster. I'm wondering if a faster Mac will make much difference.

I really would like to use the Mac exclusively, but I do need to get
work done. The primary use for Virtual PC is to run AutoCAD 2000.

Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks.
