Thanks for all the input on my Virtual PC question. I think I'm going to give up on the idea for now, sell the Mac, and just use the PC. I really wanted to switch over to using Macs, but at this time, it doesn't make sense. I thought about using both, but that makes even less sense.
It's really a shame, because AutoCAD is really the only app that's keeping me tethered to the PC. There are some really good Mac apps for everything else.
Depending on what you are doing in Autocad? There are Mac alternatives. Check out Gerhard Lemke's Cadintosh http://lemkesoft.com/en/cadintosh.htm It's shareware so the price is reasonable, but even better he offers a free trail. Download it to the Mac and play with it some. It's a remarkably capable program for shareware.
Oy! Cadintosh is to AutoCAD as a Honda is to a Bradley tank...it's an ok product, but is certainly NOT industrial strength in comparison.
That said, there are industrial grade Mac CAD programs, see <http://www.architosh.com/>, but if you're seriously stuck to AutoCAD, such as with specific add-ins and third party tools, you're stuck on a PC.
I've read that the Chairman/CEO of autocad flatly forbids development of AutoCAD for the Mac again, after their disastrous first try many years ago. (AutoCAD waltzed in with a Word 6-class product, that is to say, underpowered, overpriced, feature-poor dreck, and got their heads handed them in the market by a bunch of upstarts who built real CAD apps for the mac.)
Also there's absolutely nothing that says you can't have more than one computer. use the PC for AutoCAD, and the Mac for everything else, net the two together for file sharing and your done. Same thing I tell people who want to switch but 'I want all my PC games!'.
Hey a cheapo athlon box is a good games console...
