VPC is fine for easy tasks, like browsing a website that requires IE6 or even educational cames. Where it fails is disk access and video. Disk access is very slow, especially on NTFS vollumes as everything is translated from the PC file format into the Mac file format and back. Video is the same, with the program emulating an S3 video card in software, meaning the Mac's video card draws VPC, which then draws the Windows desktop in software.
I've done a few tests on my 1GHz 12" PowerBook (128MB allocated to Windows 2000) and find that it does math almost twice as fast as the Pentium 266 MMX laptop I still use, but actually feels more like my old Pentium 133 laptop (non MMX) in operation. Even the 133 has more fluid screen draws and is fast at disk intensive tasks (like installing software), while VPC is faster for computational tasks such as applying a photoshop filter.
