it can be done, and if done correctly doesn't look too bad. mostly, you can't get a matching bezel for the lower bay, you just have to leave that bezel off and let the face of the second drive show. you have to remove the shelf, cut off all of the upward protrusions, ideally put a piece of aluminum "L" on the bottom for strength, enlarge the front opening on the case, and make a dual drive mounting bracket, or adapt one from a pc. the shelf does not need to be moved, but the strength bends have to be removed. the shelf can be put back in with pop rivets or sheet metal screws. the only change to the external appearance is the lower (zip) bezel being removed and most of the lower drive being visible. sadly, apple did this to try and force zip use and prevent a second optical drive, if the shelf and bracket were made very slightly differently it wouldn't be a problem, there is plenty of room and the shelf is in the right place. in my case, i had the "super" drive, but it's slow to recognize a Cdr. as such so i added a fast cdrom drive so i could go through cd's faster, while keeping the super drive for dvd media and a cd r/w drive. the cable also has to be slightly rerouted, the hardest part is getting the adhesive off the drive shelf and making a converter bracket.
