I actually have tried all this, but I think my problem comes in with having the right cable. If I really want to do it right, I do need a hub. Maybe sometime in the future. For the moment I used the Transfer Disk to temporarily connect the machines enough to transfer what I needed. I had to reverse to make the G3 the base unit and the G4 as the transfer disk. It worked fine that way, but I was hoping to be able to have more than a temporary connection. Oh well.
