Hello Everyone, Just a short note to thank all list members who replied to my plea for help.
I am pleased to report that after much trial and error 9.2.1 is finally up and running on the Rev A Beige G3. The key clue was was that even when running 8.5 the computer would not play a start up chime. This led me to look at the sound control panel where I discovered that the various options were greyed out. Now, the personality card had been re-seated once before, so there was no reason to suspect it. Just for the heck of it, I took it out anyway and cleaned the contacts vigorously with tissue paper moistened with rubbing alcohol, taking care not to leave any visible residue. When the card was reinserted the G3 started up and booted 9.2.1 from the CD and the HD! The G3 functions fine now, except for one problem. Alert sounds and music from CD sound distorted and the playback volume is very low. Strangly, the OS 9.2.1 generated test tones played through the same speakers sound adequately loud and undistorted. Any suggestions on what the problem might be? Regards, Akhil -- G-List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
