Thanks - I did pull the card, and I also deleted all the
usb driver files because I'm a bit paranoid at this point!
 :)

1) What are extensions, anyway? I started out with PCs,
and extensions with them are the 3 letters that come after
the period in a file name, that identify what program
should be used with the file. Is that similar in Macs?

2) If I could use this USB 2.0 card somehow, that would be
great - I already have it, I can't return it, and even if I
don't need it for the Epson stylus photo 820 printer that
we have, and the Fujifilm Finepix 2650 digital camera that
we're borrowing, I may need it someday.

But, if I have to get a 1.1 card, and I can still use that
for the printer and camera, I will.

3) The scare - of thinking the computer died on us -
reminded me of a project I'd started a while ago and then
gave up on because I was getting confused.

We have a couple extra hard drives (small by today's
standards, but plenty big enough for us for now), and I'd
like to put one into the computer. That way, we can
partition off the OS, software, pics, other files, and can
defrag with the Norton Utility disk we have.

I tried to put it in once, and can't remember now what the
obstacle was. Well, I can't remember if there was *only*
one! They're SCSI drives, IIRC, and I had instructions on
what to do because the ends of the "chain" had to be
grounded correctly (I'm sure this isn't correct
terminology!). Couldn't figure out how to do that, even
with instructions, and couldn't figure out how to give it a
certain ID # - if this doesn't make sense, it's because I'm
wording it badly.

Any suggestions?

Janice

P.S. Any websites someone can point me to for this info
would be equally welcome!
