Better strategy is to continually save distinct versions of the file as you 
build it. 
You'll end up with a set of files, e.g., abc1.ppt, abc2.ppt, etc. , each 
further along in your build.  This takes up hard drive space, but it means that 
you can back-up to just before your killer mistake by simply opening an earlier 
version.  You can discard the intermediate versions when your done and 
backed-up, but most times I don't even bother.  They just go into the backed-up work 
files.
