Slow Safari Bookmarks List?

Since switching to OXS (10.2.8), I've noticed that Safari's bookmarks 
list takes an inordinate amount of time to pop open, especially 
compared with IE. I click on the menu bar, and it will take anywhere 
from about 2 to sometimes as much as ten seconds just to open the list.

Anyone else note this, or is this a known issue? Is there anything I 
can do to speed up things?
