If OS X is so fragile and fussy to install, then Apple can keep it. OWC
agreed to take back the install CDs I bought from them and refund my money.
Now if only I can get Apple to take back the iLife suite I bought (fat
chance, I bet). I'll buy Toast 5 for OS 9 to burn my DVDs.

Sorry it's so frustrating. It took me a while to get the system up and running
on my Beige MT but once it was established it worked very well. Could be bad
memory, or a fussy pci card, who knows? I was lucky not to have to pull parts
out, I guess.

The problem is the transition. I love Panther. It's stable and clean and full
of clever features. X is required for some of the more advanced applications,
like iDVD, for example, and the newer versions of video editing software like
iMovie and FinalCut. All this still works on my 'ancient' machine, though soon
it will be left behind I suspect.

All that said, I still need to run 9.2 quite frequently. Panther handles
Classic really poorly on my machine, though it was fine in Jaguar. I can't use
Classic at all anymore. I still am dissatisfied with printing in X so most of
my graphic work happens in 9. I like Photoshop 5.5 and avoid 7 unless I need
one of the new features. 7 runs in both systems, but 5 needs 9 or Classic. So
I have to run both systems to be productive. Lots of folks swear by X and avoid
the old system like the plague. For practical reasons, I must run both equally.
I bet there are lots of others in that boat.

This is a transition where, so far, both systems have real advantages. I hope
you can get it to work for you.
