Thomas,

The eMac install disks will work for your G4, but the OS X install only. OS 9 (Classic Support) installations are Mac specific. That is why you are getting that error.

It's important to not get too wrapped around the axle with this project. I've been around both Macs and PCs as a technician for almost 11 years. I can tell you without hesitation that PCs are much more difficult to deal with.

Fact is, the advice that OWC and Apple gave you panned out. It was a RAM dimm. Proof positive that the advice works. You have a lot going on in this Mac. It will all eventually get straightened out.

Email me off list so I can get a CD of 10.2.8 update to you.

As I just said in an earlier post, I have discovered that a borrowed OS-X
install disk from a friend's iMac will install X on this G-4, except for
the Classic Support. When I launched the installer for Classic support
(wondering why it is separate from the rest of the OS) I get a message
saying "This disk is not supported." Classic support will not install.
