yo

Well today was the day that I put some new life into
my aging but hardworking G3 MT!

I started with an Apple Power Macintosh G3/233 MT,
based on the ultra-compact Gossamer logic board (Rev
1) which features a 233 MHz PowerPC 750 (G3)
processor, 32 MB of RAM ...which I had upgraded to 384
MB some time ago, a 6.0 GB Hard Drive, an internal Zip
Drive, ATI 3D Rage II+ graphics acceleration, and a
standard personality card (Rev 1) with audio
input/output, in a tower case. I had also added
sometime ago a Radeon 7000 Mac Edition graphics board
and a USB card

Today I replaced the motherboard with a Rev 3
motherboard mounted with a 333MHz chip and a Rev 3
personally card. The task was easier than I had
through!

So now I have a upgraded Apple Power Macintosh G3/333
MT, based on a ultra-compact Gossamer logic board (Rev
3), features a 333 MHz PowerPC 750 (G3) processor, 384
MB of Ram ...which I upgraded to 768 MB, a 6.0 GB Hard
Drive ...next to be upgraded, an internal Zip Drive,
ATI 3D Rage Pro Turbo graphics acceleration, and a DVD
Video and A/V personality card (Rev3) with audio and
video input/output, in a tower case. I had also added
sometime ago a Radeon 7000 mac edition graphics board
and a USB card

And yes next to the 233MHz chip I have seen a lot of
improvement in speed ...I guess I am about half way to
where I want to as far as speed.

Next to get a face lift is the hard drive. I plan to
keep the 6 MB drive and add one or two new hard drives
something like 40 GB each ...any ideas on the right
hard drives?

todate I have spent about $150 on this ongoing
project.

I am also looking at PowerLogix's new PowerForce G3
ZIF (Zero Insertion Force) which is a super-fast, yet
economical CPU upgrade for my "Beige" Power Mac G3
which I understands has solfware which help to
overcome my limited bus speed ...has anyone tried this
solution yet.

I have also started to load XpostFacto and Panther
(OSX) and will soon retire OS9 or at least begin to
phase it out ... so far no problems with the
downloads and I have just started up OSX without any
problems ... it looks great!

If anyone out there needs used hardward (a
motherboard, RAM, ROM, and/or VRAM) ...drop me a line
or two.

Ric

have a great day...
