Yes and in OS 8.6 as well. Before using cardreaders I used applications of Canon, ArcSoft PI, MyCamera etc. Now I wiped them all. Since I have to connect different kind of cameras I had for almost every camera a different cable. Now I have one. The cardreaders (Medion) I bought are cheap (Euro 8,- = US$ 10,-), they are USB 2 and 1.1, can handle 8 cardformats (incl.
