Panther does sem to run quicker than Jaguar on the older G3's. If you
are happy with the way your machine is running why change? Otherwise
there are a host of G3 and G4 accelerator cards out there that will give
you a huge performance increase. I'd probably go for a G4 card, if
possible, so you can take advantage of any AltiVec optimised software.
Don't know if other readers have noticed this, but when a G3 and G4 of
the same speed are put side by side to run non-optimised software, there
is little to distinguish the perfprmance of a G4 466 from a G3 466.
However if you then run software that has been optimised to take
advantage of the AltiVec processor on the G4, then you notice a
significant performance increase and the G4 romps home ahead of the G3.
It does depend what you are using your machine for, so if you are into
graphics, photo, video editing or pro audio I'd recommend the G4. Hmm
wonder if Tiger will improve things even further?

I've been running Panther on a GS/DT for a while. Be sure to use
XPostFacto to install it... it actually seems more responsive than
Jaguar.

If 10.2.8 runs well on your machine now, my opinion is that Panther
will run better.
