Subject: Re: Beige G3 boot problems - HELP! Many thanks to Philip Stortz (and the others) for all your suggestions and ideas.
It seems to be working ok now since I unplugged and replugged everything and did the pram zap. Both the Apple monitor and the PC monitor work fine - as I sit with crossed fingers ;) However, I installed an old copy of Norton Utilities, version 4 -- but when I tried to reboot it gave me a "Norton Filesaver Extension error type 119". I uninstalled Norton but am wondering if that happened because that version is only for OS 8.5? Assuming that because that's what came up when I rebooted from the Norton CD to uninstall. I know most people hate Norton but I've used it with no problem on my old Imac (Disk Doctor only). I've got version 5 on the Imac (for OS 9) but as I recall, that was originally downloaded from the web and so I don't have the CD. Would copying to a zip disk and transferring be the way to go? There's no CDRW on the Imac - and I'm not ready to do the ethernet crossover cable thing yet. If so what exactly, besides the application itself, would I need to copy? These questions might sound a little dumb - so let me explain that although I've been using MAC's for years it was my (now deceased) fiancee who took care of the running of the computer(s). My Imac has run so well all by itself since (other than replacement of the PAV board) that I've not a lot of experience dealing with extension conflicts/transferring programs, etc. Thanks again for all your help - much appreciated :) Val -- G-List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
