never, never use norton or any other software that tries to protect files etc. and
messes
with the os. i use norton, but only, only for disk repair and the other utilities,
never,
never install any of their extensions or use their "file saver", same thing goes for
pc's
where i've seen similar problems with similar programs (including a "crash guard" which
just like in the mac world should have been called "crash enabler").

also, norton 4.0 won't handle hfs+ volumes and will actually mess them up, norton has a
repair tool on their site for such problems but i've never used it. i've had no
problem
with the norton utilities, but filesaver etc. are definitely, definitely bombs. disk
warrior is great, but i have had to use norton before when disk warrior thought there
were
too many problems with the drive, and norton fixed it easily (well, it took a couple of
passes, but it was eventually perfect).
