In Toast, go into the Recorder menu to Recorder Settings and then to the ADVANCED pane and make sure Buffer Underrun Prevention is checked.
It doesn't hurt anything to quit all other applications while burning, either. It is not necessarily required for a good burn, but if one is experiencing problems burning, it is a good preventive measure.

I have plenty of free space (11 gig on one drive, and 51 gig on the other).
I'm not seeing exactly where to turn buffer underrun "on".
I have been trying to burn at DAO.
Also, I just upgraded to Toast 6.07. We'll see how that goes.
Thanks.

384MB memory is not a whole lot. More memory would help a lot of ills. Are your hard disks in good shape with several GB of free space?
And not lastly <g>, are you sure you have Buffer underrun prevention turned on in preferences?
I always use DAO (disc at once), so cannot speak to how TAO works.
And make sure your blank discs are good and clean with no fingerprints on them.
Let us know how it goes.

No kidding. Sorry. My bad. I just kinda threw that out there on impulse.
OS 10.3.4 / Toast 6.0.5 / iTunes 4.6
Toasty will start to burn the DVD but always ends up with a Timeout error.
I've tried different media brands to no avail.
iTunes always ends up with the same type of error
(Filled cache without buffer underrun enabled?)
I even ran a check in the Terminal recommended by Apple to make sure that the buffer underrrun is active. It is. And the drive is set to master.
Does that help at all?

What sw were you using? System sw? What version? Toast, Dragon Burn? This would be helpful info.

I have this same drive in my Beige G3 DT (G4 overclocked to 466 with 384 of ram). Nothing but coasters (CDR and DVD-R) because of buffer underrun errors. I was able to update the firmware to 1.18 with reports that this would help. No luck.
Anybody with similar experiences and/or solutions?
I have the official 1.18 update if anyone is interested.
