I still thinmk the 'sweet spot' of the G4 line is still the G4 Sawtooth. You have AGP graphics, and a 100 mHz bus, but they're significantly cheaper than newer G4's and with an relatively inexpensive processor upgrade they're quite snappy. My work system is a Sawtooth upgraded to a G4/800...the CPU upgrade was $350 last year, they're cheaper now.
'Sweet spot' - YES you said it!
I'm still using a 5 year old Sawtooth as my main computer. I had it upgraded last year with a Sonnet G4/1G CPU upgrade. By doing this, I managed to control my drooling whenever I see the G5s.
