Not if the strain from the optical drive is carried on the frame. Fluttering is only a
problem if you bang/virbrate or strain the sides of the LCD. Of course the if the LACD
is mounted straight to the frame it might suffer. My thinking would be the LCD is held
on using silicone rubber dampers on the screws to dampen out any vibrations. Don't
suppose anyone is likely to know until they get one to play with. I know a guy who's
ordered one so i'll report on the ups and downs when i next speak to him (if he has
it).

All is deatailed in the specs at http://www.apple.com/imac

No FW800 I'm afraid but it has USB 2.0. No big loss if you ask me, FW800 is reallt
only a pro toy, FW400 is easily fast enough for all but the most hyper-fast single
external drives.

There have been no documented problems to my knowledge with the iMac G4 Rev. 1
machines. I own one and it's been flawless (touch wood) for over a year. Only problems
I have heard about are actually on the LCDs on later 2003/04 models.

Heat dissipation is fan assisted, probably by an ultra-quite fan (can be seen to in
the centre between the hard disk and AE card) as far as I can see on this picture:

http://xlr8yourmac.com/systems/iMac_G5_inside_low.jpg

That is a genuine picture too - it's a low res copy of one of Apple's public press
photos.

Air looks to be pulled in at the bottom of the machine thru the grill which also
houses those rather odd speakers (no more junk on your desk guys/gals!), It is then
passed up over the PSU and the G5 CPU to the top where it passes the hard disk and is
probably squirted out of the top. Pretty straight-forward assisted convestion system...
Apple don't do these things lightly, especially in light of peorblems certain versions
of the original iMac had with overheating, and also the seriously well designed
cooling in G5 towers. That design has long been somethign Apple have wanted to do
since way back when, it's likely the design has been in the pipeline since they
confirmed the G5 would replace the G4 (internally rather than publically) in 2002.
