For what its worth. I just picked up an 8500 powerpc. I had a USB 2.0 FireWire 400 No-Name combo card that works fine in my B&W. It would not work in the 8500. I purchased a 4 USB 2.0 port PCI card with a NEC chips set. It worked fine in the B&W but not in the 8500. The B&W runs Mac OS X 10.3.5 and Mac OS 9.2.2. The 8500 runs Mac OS 9.1. I purchased a Belkin 2 port USB 1.1 PCI card and it works fine in the 8500 and B&W. It has the Opti FireLink chip set. My B&W has an Opti FireLink USB Chip on it as well.
I think it has something to do with PCI 2.0, PCI 2.1 standards but I could be wrong. The onboard firewire ports of the B&W Rev 2. have terrible performance. I picked up a three port no-name firewire card for $20.00 and have not had a problem since. Brian -- G-List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
