I have a B&W that I just got and just stuck in a drive out of a Dell while waiting for to buy a Pioneer 108 when it is finder burn supported, and had no problems at all. While it isn't supported in the finder (and I didn't feel like installing Patchburn) it worked fine in toast and played DVDs with out me doing anything to the system. Are you sure you have a good IDE cable?
