Hi All
1. [G4 AGP with native firewire] Would I be right in saying that 9.2.2 Drive Setup will not format a 200Gb in an external firewire enclosure. When I try, it says "Cannot initialize a disk in an unsupported drive". However 10.3.4 Disk Utility seems to be capable of format/partitioning it (I didnt proceed with the format/partition because of data already on the disk). 2. Would I be right in saying that Firewire/USB Combo PCI cards aren't always recognized as such in a 9.2.2 Beige G3 MT. I have just bought a combo card and am having trouble with it. The USB slots work as expected but the firewire one freezes the machine if you try to do any thing other than boot with the external drive pre-connected. System profiler sees an external drive when it is USB connected but not when firewire connected. System Profiler shows all USB slots even though one of them should probably be displayed as firewire, so maybe it is confused by the combo card. Will separate USB and Firewire PCI cards be a better solution than a single combo card? Do particular chipsets and/or brand name cards make a difference or will generic no-name PCI cards be OK, considering that generics are $A20 in Australia compared to $A160 or so for Sonnet? If combo cards dont really work, would I be wasting my time trying to get both USB and Firewire capability in a 5500 which has only 1 PCI slot. Ideas/suggestions gratefully received.
