first, scsi has been around for a long time, there are many, many versions of it,
including firewire (yes, firewire is based on scsi), serial, etc.

there are 3 kinds of termination, in increasing order of "goodness" or effectiveness,
and
also price they are:

passive
active
forced perfect

most of us are using passive termination, and it usually works fine. on most of my
external drives i'm using active termination because i got some active terminators
cheap,
and i know it's better. forced perfect termination is the best and will cover a
multitude
of "sins" in setting a scsi chain up and produce the cleanest signals in any case.

depending on the speed of the scsi chain you have that drive on, and of the drive, you
might need active or better termination. are you actually using that drive in LVD
mode or
in SE mode? what is the drive connected to? (i.e. the apple's bus, a scsi card? which
scsi card?). how long are your' cables? are you using a 50 pin or 68 pin cable or?
these are all pertinent questions.

if you are operating the drive in LVD mode, a SE terminator will definitely not work.
if
you are running the drive in SE mode an LVD terminator might or might not work,
probably
won't work if passive, might work if active.

of course as usual you should also check all of the drive jumpers to make sure they are
correct for your system. it's always a good idea to go to the manufacturers site and
download the manual for any drive you are using, different companies do things
differently
and different models from the same company are sometimes very different in how things
should be set up.

sorry, we really need more data to help you.
