Well there are probably others who know more about this than I do, but I will still hang my hat on the theory that this early machine's memory controller won't recognize the higher density chipset on a 32 X 8 Dimm. I am going to pick up a 256m chip later this week that has 16 chips on it and see if that works.

I feel strongly that what you're experiencing is a machine
specific oddity and not a rev.A limitation.

There may be an undocumented 3rd slot limitation, but I've
never heard of it...
