There is no obligation on either side to provide feedback.

Ebay is about buying and selling goods. Not about who leaves feedback and who should leave it first.

As a buyer, if I'm satisfied with a transaction I always leave a feedback - regardless of what the seller does.
As a seller, I leave it up to the buyer to decide whether or not to leave a feedback.
If he gives me one, then I do the same.
If he doesn't, I won't either - and my feeling is not hurt - no problem.
Giving a positive feedback prematurely to buyer could backfire because he could neg you for any reason real or imaginary.
So far my feedbacks have been 100% positive, but I don't expect to keep this up as I continue to deal on eBay.
There are rotten apples out there - and I expect to run into them eventually.
I'm just being realistic.
