Ebay is about buying and selling goods. Not about who leaves feedback and who should leave it first.
As a buyer, if I'm satisfied with a transaction I always leave a feedback - regardless of what the seller does.
Good! :)
As a seller, I leave it up to the buyer to decide whether or not to leave a feedback.
If he gives me one, then I do the same.
If he doesn't, I won't either - and my feeling is not hurt - no problem.
feh. That's what creates the whole "he didn't leave feedback" standoff!
If you're a Seller then step up and do the right thing: If the Buyer communicates and pays promptly, leave feedback then ship. Let the shipping issues be handled in the Buyer's feedback and feedback responses. IF you're a responsible Seller then this won't cause any problems.
Giving a positive feedback prematurely to buyer could backfire because he could neg you for any reason real or imaginary.
No. It never backfires. If the bad feedback was earned, then you deserved it. If it wasn't then you can post a response. If it was really agregious, you can file a complaint with eBay and they'll remove it.
...I'll go this one step further. As a Seller, I *always* leave feedback for *every* one of my Buyers. I do this as I'm sending my "I've shipped" email when I get home from the USPS. Sometimes the feedback isn't as glowing, if the Buyer paid late etc. I don't neut or neg unless the guy blew past the required time limits (late notices, NPB Alerts, etc). And I *never* *ever* ask the Buyer to give me feedback in return. That's already included in eBay's missives. I see no need to beg for it.
