make it a startup drive or something? also, whats partitioning all
about? thankyou...

Partitioning is the process of dividing a physical hard drive into one or more logical drives. Depending on your application there is a number of reasons to do this.

Some Macs (Beige G3's, a few early iMacs and Wallstreet Powerbooks, that's IT! No more!) require that OS X be installed in a partition completely within the first 8GB of a hard drive if you use the internal ATA bus. In this case, in order to install OS X on a drive > 8gb you must create two partitons.

Some people create multiple partitions to segregate their data from their system folders, to maintain multiple systems on one system, or to create an easily cleared scratch space for video or Photoshop work.

Linux and traditional Unix systems usually have three or more partitions, including one for swap space. (OS X is set up differently, and uses swap files.)

Some people will say they do it for data safety reasons, this is somewhat true. logical errors will not mess with multiple partitons, but physical errors can.

Some people seem to create partions for the fun of it, I think, I recall someone mentioning they's created 9 partitions on a new disk. Maybe they just like seeing a forest of drive icons on the desktop ;-)
