It's also simpler - and more efficient - to have your (changing) data
separate from your apps for the purposes of backing-up

LOL. That may have been me at one time. I was happy to see the option to
*not* have HD icons displayed on the desktop.

For example, I'm running a G4 (AGP Graphics) 500 w/ 2 x 120GB drives.

Drive 1 (in order): OS 9 (alternate direct boot by holding the "d"); OS X;
Applications (non-Mac/iTunes/etc); Data; Scratch

Drive 2 (in order):OS X back-up; Powerbook backup; VPC; Spare

To each their own.
