Ouch, then I bet it's a combination of driver and Quartz Extreme. That sure looks like the videocard is replicating a bitblt area over and over on an offset. What video card do you have? Have you tried making sure the driver's been updated? ATI just released an update.

Didn't realize it only happens in Addressbook. If that's the case it's a bug in Addressbook. A hardware or system error would happen in just about any program.
Can you get it to happen reproduceably?
Lesson learned, have a good back up computer around just in case Apple says, "Take it Back to the Dealer."
