For Christmas I want to purchase a 12" iBook G4 - NEW.
Nice machine. Thought that's what we were going to get, but then we saw/used the 15" PowerBook. More $, but ... the screen is so much nicer, etc.
What are the benefits of purchasing this Mac from; 1) A Mac dealer
Local personal service. Maybe onsite repair? But between the original warrenty and AppleCare, you can get that at any Apple Store anyway.
2) Big Box Store (BestBuy, Future Shop, etc)
Pay your $ then watch that door.
3) Mac Online
Apple Store? eh. It's ok. They charge tax.
4) Campus Book Store
May have special deals!!!!
We considered the (sans edu discount) above... Then realized that places like Outpost.com had the 15" PowerBook in stock, for one hundred dollars less than Apple's price AND AppleCare was $10 less for the same package AND there was no sales tax. So we saved +/- $250!
With everybody now selling iPods how can companies be competitive. For instance most places advertise "We Will Beat Any Advertised Price" But Apple has a fixed price. Technically if Apple is selling the iBook for $1,500 CND then future shop should sell it to me for less?
Price fixing is illegal. *cough*.
FWIW, - Dan.
