This last time it was hit, the onboard ethernet died, an he bought a pci ethernet adapter for it - the box said it would work with a Mac, but we couldn't get it to work.
After several days of troubleshooting it dawned on me that maybe the pci slot was dead - that slot held the graphic card for the monitor we have asumed died from the first lightning. (Wish us luck on the monitor now - maybe it's still alive...:))
I yanked the uw scsi card in the bottom slot, put in the ethernet card a voila - the card appeared everywhere it's supposed to, and networking works again.
Oh, and now I could also see the empty slot in the system profiler (didn't really notice it was missing before), so, as the curious little girl I am, I simply had to try and stick the uw scsi in the slot.
And here's the strange thing now - the scsi card turns up fine in the system profiler, the ethernet card never did - in fact, I couldn't even see the slot itself. The scsi cd-rw attached to the card doens't turn up though, and cds fed to it don't get read :-(
Is there any hope for this pci slot to come alive again?
/Tina
