I have just tried and neither the CD nor the DVD will boot
Panther, but they will boot Jaguar.

Possibly a flaky 10.3 disk? This is not normal behavior. If a system boots Jag it will boot Panther.

Installed perfectly from a 3rd party CD/RW drive.

Nothing wrong with the disks.

With both the CD and the VD (both Apple) they could see the
OS X.3 system folders but they were dimmed in Startup Disk.
Jaguar was fine with both drives.

The problem is kinda solved, except that DVD Player wasn't installed as
no DVD player was connected when installing Panther with the CD/RW
drive. :o/
