Thanks for the heads-up. Apparently 1st-gen Cheetahs are the real charcoal briquets -- later they learned how to cool them down. I may have to get an extra fan -- or put it in an external case that I have. It's an old APS, with built-in active termination, so I guess it would do for now. > I'm gonna try installing a second-generation 10K Cheetah in a 7300 > desktop case soon. So is the top bay, so I guess it would have to be the middle -- which, apparently, Apple designed without much space for air flow. Long-term it's destined to go in the 6500 I'm building for my brother-in-law him. I have a suspicion that the top bay (where the Zip drive normally goes) is not very well ventilated, either...but that's OT for this list. >> What I have read on the web & here suggests that the middle bay is kinda >> crowded for air flow. It came out OK; I installed 8.6 on it & booted up fine. Man, even in a SCSI-1 interface, this drive ROCKS! Now I'm kinda sorry I promised it to my brother-in-law... ;) After a couple of hours of constant spinning due to the test, the air coming out of the case was still fairly cool to the touch. That's good. My only reservation about the case is that the adaptor blocks about 3/8 of the fan in the back, & the also due to the height of the adaptor I can't use the standoffs that are provided inside the case, but have to screw the drive directly to the rails on the floor, which are raised maybe a 16th of an inch from the floor. The Seagate docs mention the importance of good air circulation on the circuit board; I hope that's enough.... :/ Also, the LED pins are larger than the case's connector plug was designed to jump. I guess there are adaptors out there; but it's not terribly important for me or my brother-in-law to see the light show, we get enough of the *sound show* to know when it's accessed! > Pax, > > -- > Gene, a.k.a.
