FYI, I decided to change to the tweaked 1.20 firmware for my Pioneer DVR-107D, that is tweaked only for 12x rip and region free (not 8x burning for all media). With this firmware I am still not able to burn Memorex 8x media at 8x (I believe I mentioned this issue before - it was true with the "official" firmware as well, although it was an older version, and is one of the reasons I decided to install tweaked firmware)! Disk Utility says 4x for the speed. As such I've gone back to the 1.18 tweaked including 8x burning on all media, just so I can burn 8x on my 8x Memorex media! Rather silly!

Speaking of burning, is it normal for Disk Utility to *not* allow me to change the burn speed when burning to DVD-R? The pop-up menu is always grayed out such that I can't select a lower speed even if I want to. I'm running OS X 10.3.6, with the associated version of Disk Utility.

Steve
