Great! It sounds like you're on your way to getting it done.
The only problem you might encounter is that the machine you're attaching the SCSI CD burner to may require the driver software in order to properly recognize the drive. It might depend on the drive, though.
What about networking these machines you'll be upgrading the OS's on? Do so, along with file sharing may be an alternate way of getting the 19 segments of the OS onto the drive to be ungraded.

thats the real trick - i've actually gotta put this on some machines without cd-roms... fortunately some of them have scsi.
i haven't tested it yet, but i have a lacie scsi burner kicking around which i'm hoping to use on the machines with scsi ports.
so i'm basically doing what you suggested, but using a scsi cd-rom and a burnt cd!
fun and games but getting there...
